Joseph J. Keenan is a founding partner of Palmetto Commercial Properties. His professional experiences in Southeastern commercial real estate compromises more than 40 years selling, leasing, developing, and managing all manner of property, from large medical buildings to historic boutique inns. The breadth if his career is anchored by dedication to his community and ongoing work as an industry educator.
Keenan is a Charleston native who has been in business in Charleston since 1972. Prior to founding Palmetto Commercial Properties, he founded and operated Keenan & Hewitt Commercial Real Estate Company, and the investment firm K&H Properties, both with fellow Palmetto Commercial Properties partner, Batson Hewitt.
Being an industry educator is central to Keenan who is a Senior Instructor for the CCIM Institute. He has taught for over 30 years and traveled extensively I the United States, Canada, Taiwan, and throughout Eastern Europe to educate on Commercial Investment Real Estate. Keenan achieved CCIM designation in 1979, making him among the first 1000 people to receive the prestigious designation nationally, and among the first 10 in South Carolina.
Charleston’s ever changing and evolving real estate is an inspiration to Keenan, who notes that every day is different. “It’s never the same old. One day I work with retail, the next day I leverage an existing entity for an insurance company. The challenge is always to fulfill our investors. And across the board: they are fulfilled. That’s what I love most about my work.”
Keenan is a 1967 graduate of the Citadel with a B.S. in Business Administration. He and his wife attend the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. He is active with the Diocese of Charleston. Keenan raised two children in Charleston and now dotes on four fabulous grandchildren.
